"Twilight Tour of the Daniel ("Abraham") Hasbrouck House: Exploring the Home in a New Light," with HHS's Sarah McCully

  • Historic Huguenot Street 81 Huguenot St New Paltz, NY, 12561 United States (map)

Historic Huguenot Street is excited to be offering four opportunities for visitors to tour the Daniel Hasbrouck House, also known as the “Abraham Hasbrouck House,” Friday evenings in the month of October.

Daniel Hasbrouck belonged to the second generation of New Paltz patentee families who lived and built along today’s Huguenot Street. When he inherited his father Abraham’s estate, he also gained the means to build a stone house of his own: wealth from the family farm and grist mill, and forced labor from enslaved Africans. Join Sarah McCully, HHS’s Youth & Family Programs Coordinator, for a special tour of this property, a remarkably well-preserved exemplar of Dutch colonial architecture, which is rarely open to the general public. Guests will explore the many cultural confluences and conflicts of early and mid-18th century life in New Paltz, from the Hasbroucks’ Dutch and “Huguenot” colonial roots, to the daily lives of those that they enslaved.

Sarah McCully joined HHS this year as their Youth and Family Programs Coordinator. She holds an MA in archaeology from Cornell University, and previously ran school programs for Landmark West!, a historic preservation and architecture non-profit in New York City. She has written lesson plans for the National Park Service and non-profits in New York and Washington D.C. and worked in education for over a decade.
