“A Soldier’s Life in the Revolution,” performed by Linda Russell & Companie in the Crispell Memorial French Church

  • Historic Huguenot Street 60 Huguenot Street New Paltz, NY, 12561 United States (map)

Balladeer Linda Russell and instrumentalist Christa Patton explore the life of the common soldier of the Revolution as seen in song.  Playing guitar, dulcimer, pipe and tabor, flute and bagpipe, the duo will sing camp songs, songs of mutiny and desertion, parodies, patriotic anthems and ballads. “Nothing is more agreeable and ornamental than good music; every officer, for the credit of his corps, should take care to provide it”  wrote George Washington who understood the power of music.  This program looks at the tunes, both military and secular, that were part of soldier’s lives.

Christa Patton, historical harpist and early wind specialist, has performed throughout the Americas, Europe, and Japan with many of today’s premier early music ensembles, including Piffaro the Renaissance Band, Early Music New York, Boston Camerata, The King’s Noyse, Folger Consort, Newberry Consort, Apollo’s Fire, and Parthenia.
