“Tradition, Not Trend: Appreciation vs. Appropriation & Native Cultures," a virtual presentation with Gianna Barone, Cultural Education Generalist, Delaware Tribe of Indians

  • Historic Huguenot Street 81 Huguenot St New Paltz, NY, 12561 United States (map)

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, HHS and the Delaware Tribe of Indians invite you to join us for this Lenape-centered presentation on the difference between cultural appreciation and appropriation. This program will reveal why misuse of Native culture causes harm and how to engage respectfully with Indigenous traditions, art, and identity. Participants will learn practical ways to honor culture with integrity and reciprocity.

This presentation will be presented entirely online via a link provided after registration.

Gianna Barone is Lenape, an enrolled citizen of the Delaware Tribe of Indians, and serves as the Tribe’s Cultural Education Department Generalist. Her work focuses on Lenape cultural revitalization, food sovereignty, and intergenerational learning. She leads programs such as CALO: Community At Large Outreach and ReConnection, which strengthens connections among Lenape citizens across regions. Gianna is dedicated to sustaining cultural knowledge, language, and traditions that honor the continuity and resilience of the Lenape people.
