Virtual Community Tree Lighting

  • Historic Huguenot Street 81 Huguenot St New Paltz, NY, 12561 United States (map)

Tune into Historic Huguenot Street's Facebook page Friday, December 4, at 6 PM as we light the community tree for a virtual audience. HHS staff will briefly address the New Paltz community and its supporters from across the globe, before counting down the big event. The lighting of the tree will followed by a caroling performance by our very own Amber Neilson, HHS Arts & Interpretation Manager.

From now through the end of the year, we invite everyone in the community to make and hang a homemade birdseed ornament on the tree. Countless “how to” videos and directions can be found online, but we personally recommend following these simple instructions:

Collect pinecones from your neighborhood or a local park (Hint: Pinecones can be found if you walk the grounds at Huguenot Street!)

Back at home, spread peanut butter on your pinecone(s). This can easily be done with a popsicle stick.

Next, sprinkle bird seed on the pine cone so it sticks to the peanut butter.

Tie twine or string around the top of the pine cone so that it can hang from a tree branch.

Hang your birdseed ornament on the community tree at Huguenot Street! Check our Facebook and Instagram pages on a regular basis for photo updates of local birds enjoying the community’s creations!

Thank you all for your time, interest, and participation. We wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season.
