October Nature Walk With Justin Wexler

  • Historic Huguenot Street 81 Huguenot Street New Paltz, NY, 12561 United States (map)

For thousands of years, the Esopus Munsee people would spend this time of year collecting nuts and setting brush fires to hunt game in the hills.

Come learn about our region’s indigenous peoples’ autumn traditions on our 2020 bonus nature walk, which will take place on Saturday, October 17th from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. Led by ethnoecologist Justin Wexler, this upcoming program will focus on the local native people and their relationship with the environment. We will identify local flora and fauna, and discuss their uses in native culture. We will also explore the species and the surrounding ecosystems through Munsee language and folklore.

Check-in is at the DuBois Fort Visitor Center, and the tour will start at the replica Esopus Munsee wigwam and will guide visitors through the Nyquist-Hartcourt Wildlife Sanctuary.
