ACCESSIBILITY

Historic Huguenot Street strives to make its grounds, exhibits, and programs accessible to everyone, wherever possible, with understandable limitations given the historic nature of the buildings and grounds. For more information about the accessibility of museum houses, please contact the Main Office at (845) 255-1660 x100.  It is helpful to inform us in advance if you plan to visit the site with someone who has limited mobility so that we can ensure we are prepared.

Service Animals

Historic Huguenot Street welcomes service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the site where the general public is allowed, including the historic structures.

According to the ADA, service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA, and are not permitted inside the historic structures or office buildings of HHS.

A service animal must be under the control of its handler. Under the ADA, service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless the individual’s disability prevents using these devices or these devices interfere with the service animal’s safe, effective performance of tasks. In that case, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls.
