The Josiah Hasbrouck House @ Locust Lawn
At
Locust Lawn, located just four miles from Historic Huguenot
Street, the story of the Huguenots and their descendants
continues. This site features the Federal-style
mansion of Josiah Hasbrouck, great-grandson of New Paltz
Patentee Jean Hasbrouck. Built in 1814, the house
was the center of a large gentleman's farm which originally
included a saw mill, a grist mill, and the still extant
Terwilliger House. Colonel Josiah Hasbrouck served as
a United States Representative under both Jefferson and
Monroe, and his house and farm represent both the height
of fashion and the Jeffersonian ideal of pride in the
rural, agricultural tradition. Donated in 1958 by Hasbrouck
descendant Annette Young.
