Some say that over nine million people today can trace at least a part of their family tree back to the early families of New Paltz. This may be a very large number, but there are many whose family tree leads back to Huguenot Street. If you are a descendant or believe you might be, there are two avenues at Historic Huguenot Street to learn more about the early Huguenot, Dutch and English families of the Hudson Valley. Our library collection contains information about many of the early families of the region. The collection focuses on French and Dutch families, with some early English families included as well. On a limited basis, the library can respond to queries and can provide on-site assistance for those looking to research their family history. The library collection features Surname and Genealogy Files that are available for public use. If you are unable to visit Historic Huguenot Street, files can be researched and copied for a modest fee. If you are a descendant of any of the founding families of New Paltz or if one of the early surnames appears on your family tree, another way to learn more about your genealogy is by contacting your Family Association. Most Family Associations have a designated genealogist. Many have genealogies available for purchase. |
